WHAT'S THE 110% RULE?
The 110% Rule was designed by the North Carolina Utilities Commission Rates and Transportation Division to prevent predatory sales practices concerning Non-binding Estimates.
It means, basically, that if you require a moving company to dispatch a representative to your home five days or more prior to your moving day, and you are moving directly from Point A to Point B, with no stops in-between, the Company via the Representative can not Estimate that your move will cost, say, $100, and then, once everything you own is loaded on their truck, hand you a bill for $200 before relinquishing possession of your property--because, quite likely, that Non-binding Estimate was deliberately "low-balled" by the sales representative.
At that point, you have every legal right to pay 110%--or, in this case, $110--of the Non-binding Estimate you received IN WRITING, and demand the Company relinquish possession of your property and provide you with an additional 30 days to pay the remaining balance in full, at which time the Company now has a right to file suit.
Will a legitimate, licensed and insured moving company file suit for, say, $500 or even $1000? It's highly unlikely. If you feel you’ve been deliberately misled, deceived, etc, and decide not to pay the balance, they'll write it off as a loss and, quite likely, fire the sales representative.
The 110% Rule does NOT apply to phone estimates or computer-generated estimates.

OUR ATTENTION TO DETAIL SETS US APART:
Upon arrival and prior to removing articles from your home, our clients demand we:
1.) Utilize door-jam protection, banister protection and rug-runners.
2.) Stretch-wrap standard mattresses for cleanliness
3.) Pad and stretch-wrap all furniture rather than cutting corners (merely draping pads over select furniture in the truck is asking for trouble).
4.) Leather furniture shall be padded first and then stretch-wrapped so that leather can “breath” and prevent discoloration.
5.) Fabric furniture, such as sofas and chairs, shall be stretch-wrapped
6.) Appliances shall be padded while aboard the truck
7.) Furniture shall be strapped while aboard the truck to prevent damage caused by load-shift while in transit.
8.) Each dining room chair shall be padded individually
9.) To minimize load and off-load time and help ensure safety, each of our trucks is equipped with two Magliner hand-trucks with non-collapsible wheels for safe, efficient collection and re-distribution of boxes, furniture and appliances, mattress dollies and heavy duty-lift straps.
While all of this prep-work may sound time-consuming and unnecessarily expensive, bear in mind that 95% of all damages occur while handling, loading and offloading your valuables—NOT while in transit—and therefore the distance between your point of origin and point of destination is almost irrelevant, because the hourly rates we offer are always more cost-effective than repairing your furniture.

$75 per hour for two men and a truck sounds like a bargain until you realize they’re not licensed or insured, their truck is undersized, they’ll need to make multiple trips—and guess who’s expected to pay for the additional time: You.
